On November 5, 1605 Guy Fawkes of England tried to blow up Parliment. He was caught and executed as a traitor. Later this day became a holiday in England supporting political freedom.

In the movie, V for Vendetta, the future UK is overtaken by a fascist type government that experiments on its own population to become powerful and rich. A victim of this crime vows vengance on the leaders. He chooses November 5th to overthrow the leadership via terrorist actions and inspiring the English to overthrow their own government in one year.
